This episode is all about repair. We talk about the value of it both financially and in terms of joy and satisfaction.
The Castlemaine Repair Cafe has been running for about four years under the leadership of local woman Chris Hooper. We did an episode on the cafe in 2018 where we interviewed Chris, some of her repairers and some people who had brought their items in for repair. It seemed like a good time to catch up with Chris again and see what is happening with the Repair Cafe as we emerge from the pandemic.
We look briefly at the Right to Repair movement that is emerging globally.
Finally, we hear from Lucy Armstrong, a high school teacher and keen mender of clothing. She and Allie discuss the challenges and joys of repairing old clothes – from patching, darning and altering clothes to how to convince teenagers to take an interest.
