Join us as Saltgrass host Allie goes on an adventure across Australia with citizen scientists, ecologists, nature nerds and eremophila enthusiasts.
Join me (Allie) on my first trip across the Nullarbor and into Australia’s red centre. I was tagging along with a not for profit organisation called Desert Discovery. They collect data from remote arid landscapes to help build our collective knowledge and understanding of these little understood ecosystems.
I had a lot to learn about off track driving, what a desert even is and how to survive in remote, arid landscapes. I saw wild dingos, feisty fairy wrens, cute little marsupials and an amazing abundance of flowering plants given that we were in a desert!
This season will feature stories from the road and interviews with Desert Discovery participants. I spent a day with each of the teams and episodes will look at what people where discovering out there and ask them why they would travel across Australia and around the world to volunteer their days – counting wildlife, insects, plants and fungi.
This season was made at MAINfm and was made possible with support fromthe Community Broadcasting Foundation.
It was broadcast on community radio stations MAINfm and 3MDR and was also released as a podcast.
